SUSTAINABLE CHRISTMAS

Hello again and Merry Christmas! Its been a while; but I just thought I'd share some tips for having a more sustainable Christmas. Enjoy!

  • Let's start with food. Over 4 million Christmas dinners are thrown away each year- that's a lot of food going to waste. So its really important that we manage how much food we buy. Another important thing is leftovers; for example making pies with leftover turkey. Stock is really easy to make as well.
  • Secondly, what about presents? Asking for something that you really want and will actually use is key, and homemade presents can be a lovely option. For example, in my house we have made snow globes out of old jars. These make great gifts. If you don't feel up for making something, think about where you are buying from. Is it an independent business? How far does it have to be delivered from? These things can make a huge difference.
  • And what about wrapping presents? I always try to use as little wrapping paper and tape as possible, and save wrapping paper from presents other people have given me. Another important thing is that wrapping paper with glitter etc is not recyclable. We buy recyclable tape and plain wrapping paper which you can easily decorate with some drawings/stickers or ribbon. Then it can be recycled!
  • Christmas cards are another big thing. We save some of ours to be cut up and used as tags for presents next year. And again, only write as many as you need to!
  • Lastly, if you want more statistics on the environmental impact of Christmas, you can read this article: https://www.zerowasteweek.co.uk/zero-waste-christmas/
Thank you so much for reading, stay safe and have a great Christmas! 🎄🎅
