Hi! Today, I am going to explain an easy way to take action on the climate crisis. As a young person, it is very important to connect with other young people who share your love for the environment and- although social media is a great way to do this- school is ultimate place. So, today you are going to learn how to set up an environmental club at your school!
1)Get Started! First things first, a teacher is pretty much necessary and actually pretty useful! They can help you influence your headteacher and sign up for things that you wouldn't be able to do! Ask around and see if any teachers might be interested. If there is a student council, try and join then set up an environmental branch.
If no teachers can help you, try writing to your headteacher. Setting up a correspondence is very important because you can influence them directly.
2)Raise Awareness! Now you have a teacher, you need some people to join. Use posters, leaflets, go in the newsletter; anything you can to get people to join! Make sure you include different year groups- everyone has something to bring. In this time, my club has to meet in two different groups because of bubbles and this new lockdown has meant we have had a month-long break. But we are still doing things!
3)Spread The Word: Tell your headteacher or head/s of year about the club. Let them know that you will be taking action and wold like to cooperate with them on making change.
4)Identify The Issues: What problems does your school have? Id there plastic cutlery? Does the recycling system have some faults? Identify the issues and make a step-by-step plan to combat them. Remember: nothing is too big but make sure you are going about it in the most effective and sustainable way!
Voila! You have a club and are making a big difference. Well done! 👍👍👌💚💚💚
Wow! Have you actually set up your own environmental club??? That's so cool!
